A professional ceramic coating is a good product applied well by somebody who does it every day. It is also a day without the car, and a bill that typically runs to several hundred pounds — well into four figures once paint correction is included, which it usually is, because a coating locks in whatever is underneath it. For a car that is driven every day and washed on a drive, that is a lot of money to protect paint that is going to meet road salt in November regardless.

What does a graphene coating do?

Ceramic set the standard for spray-on protection. Graphene moved it on. The coating bonds harder and sits slicker than a traditional ceramic detailer, which is what turns weeks of protection into months. Water beads and leaves rather than sitting, dirt has less to grip, and the surface holds a deep gloss instead of flattening after a fortnight.

We built this formula for the UK specifically: wide temperature swings, persistent road salt from November to March, and the fine particulate of urban driving. It resists UV and heat, and it holds through a winter where standard detailers quietly give up.

How to apply a graphene coating

Start clean. Wash and dry the car first. The coating bonds to the paint, so anything between the two — road film, old wax, a week of dust — is what it bonds to instead. The Ceramic Wash System does this job properly: a pre-wash, a rinse, the foam and the mitt, then dry. Work in the shade on a cool panel. Never on paint that has just been driven or is sitting in sun.

Spray on. Four to six sprays per panel. It is concentrated, and you need less than you think. Overloading a panel does not add protection; it adds buffing.

Buff off. Level it with a clean microfibre within sixty seconds. Flip to a dry side and buff to a clear, deep gloss. No streaks, no haze. If a panel does haze, you left it too long or used too much — a second clean cloth brings it back.

Drive. Protection is active immediately and fully cured in about an hour. There is no waiting overnight and no keeping it dry for a day.

Panel by panel, a car takes about fifteen minutes. There are two full applications in a 250ml bottle.

How long does a graphene coating last?

Up to six months from one application. That is a real number for a daily-driven car washed properly through the winter. Two things shorten it: caustic cleaners, which strip it as readily as they strip anything else, and neglect — a coating on a car that is never washed is holding a layer of grime, not repelling it.

Two things extend it. Washing with the Ceramic Snow Foam, which is pH neutral and tops the surface up every fortnight rather than wearing it down. And a pass of Ceramic Detailer between washes when you want the beading back at full strength.

Applied twice a year, one bottle covers the car for twelve months.

Graphene coating vs a professional ceramic coating

If the paint needs correcting — swirls, holograms, a previous owner's sponge — a professional will polish it flat before coating, and no spray-on product does that. If you want a coating warrantied for years rather than months, that is a professional product and a professional price. And if the car lives in a garage and comes out for shows, a pro coating is money well spent.
